WHY SWADDLING HELPS

Newborns are used to being in a snug, contained space. The open world outside can be startling for them quite literally. The Moro reflex, or startle reflex, is a natural response that can jerk babies awake just as they are drifting off. Swaddling recreates that familiar feeling of being held close, which settles the nervous system and helps babies sleep without unnecessary waking.

The fabric matters as much as the wrap itself. Too heavy and your baby overheats. Too stiff and you cannot get a proper swaddle. Muslin does both things right.

HOW TO SWADDLE SAFELY

Step 1: Lay the blanket flat in a diamond shape and fold the top corner down about 6 inches.

Step 2: Place your baby on their back with their neck resting on the folded edge. The head should sit above the fold.

Step 3: Hold your baby's left arm gently alongside their body. Pull the left side of the blanket across their chest and tuck it under their right side.

Step 4: Fold the bottom corner up over the feet and tummy. Make sure the legs can still move freely. Tight wrapping around the hips is not safe.

Step 5: Hold the right arm alongside the body. Pull the right side across the chest and tuck under the left side. You should be able to fit two to three fingers between the blanket and your baby's chest.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Wash before first use. Machine wash cold or warm with like colors using a mild baby detergent. Tumble dry on low or hang dry in shade. Do not bleach. Iron on low heat if needed. Gets softer with every wash.
